New Association Watches over Bulgarian Wine Makers

A newly founded Association of Bulgarian Wine Producers aims at protecting the interests of small businesses in grape growing and wine making in Bulgaria.
The news was reported Saturday by the Bulgarian National Radio, BNR, citing the Chair of the Bulgarian Association of Grape Growers and Wine Producers, Bozhidar Boev, who spoke at the celebrations dedicated to the Day of Grapes and Harvest in the Danube city of Silistra.
According to the report, the new organization had already received an invitation to become a full-pledged member of the European Association of Wine Makers, based in Brussels.

Russian President Replaces Rosneft CEO - Report

Russian President Dmitri Medvedev had ordered the cabinet to nominate Eduard Khudaynatov for President of Rosneft, the Russian information agency RIA Novosti reports, citing a Kremlin spokesperson.
The spokesman informed Mevdev met with Khudaynatov Saturday. Khudaynatov, 50, and currently the company’s First Deputy President is to succeed current CEO Sergey Bogdanchikov, who has headed the company since 1998.

France Sees Mass Protests against Roma Deportation

Numerous protest rallies are taking place across France Saturday in protest at the cabinet’s policy of deporting Roma people, BBC reports.
Anti-racism groups say least 138 demonstrations are planned, including a march through the capital Paris where over 30 000 are expected to attend. The organizer, the League of Human Rights, explained it wanted to counteract government “xenophobia” and the systematic abuse of Roma in France.

EABG Confirms Interest in Bulgarian F1 Project

The Abu Dhabi Company Emirates Associate Business Group (EABG) is a private not state-owned, and is interested in investments in Bulgaria, the company’s representative Anwar Badwan stated Saturday.
Badwan, reported by some Bulgarian media as being an advisor to the company, arrived in Sofia to help settle the issue with EABG’s alleged intentions to build a Formula 1 racetrack in the village of Dobroslavtsi near the capital. He confirmed the August 30 company visit had been made so that the Abu Dhabi businessmen can learn more about the project, along with other investment opportunities.

Racket Made EABG Consider Dropping Bulgarian F1 Project

The Abu Dhabi Company Emirates Associate Business Group (EABG) which declared and later recanted interest in financing the construction of a Formula 1 racetrack near Sofia complained of being racketeered.
A company representative, Anwar Badwan, who arrived in Bulgaria to help settle the issue is quoted by Darik radio saying EABG received an email reading: “Send USD 94 M in order to iron out the misunderstandings.” The letter was signed by someone named Alex Tsakov….

Opposition Socialist Leader: Early Elections Loom in Bulgaria

The leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), Sergey Stanishev, declared Saturday his forecast for early general elections.
Stanishev, who was also Bulgaria’s Prime Minister during the previous cabinet term, spoke during a celebration in the village of Krasava in western Bulgaria dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the founding of the local communist organization.
The socialist leader informed party followers and supporters, gathered for the event, that the approval rate of the ruling, center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party (GERB) is going down fast, the discontent among common Bulgarians is rising, and mass protests are brewing for the fall.

SAS Craft Makes Emergency Landing in Sofia

Bulgarian Education Minister Vows Smooth School Year Start

The upcoming school year in Bulgaria will begin without problems and with the cooperation of all social partners of the Education Ministry, Minister Sergey Ignatov stated Saturday.
About 100 municipalities have declared readiness to introduce pre-school classes while pre-school education will become mandatory for all in 2012.

Bulgarian Economy Minister Upbeat about 2011 Forecast

An economic growth of 3.5% in 2011 is possible, according to Bulgaria’s Economy and Energy Minister, Traicho Traikov.
Traikov spoke Saturday during his visit to the Black Sea capital Varna, saying the deficit is not that much of a problem as long as there is economic growth.
